Top 3 Digital Marketing Trends for 2018
Time to bust out the crystal ball and provide my top three digital marketing trend predictions for 2018. Will animated GIFs be the big SEO leader? Or should you put all your marketing budget into niche Pinterest advertising? Only time will tell! Here are my three areas of focus moving into the new year.

Top 3 Digital Marketing Trends for 2018:

   1.  On-Platform Content Becomes King – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, even Google, are all vying to keep their users on their platforms. More and more often they are going to be prioritizing content that your brand publishes on their platforms directly. So this means that by posting content like video, images, and articles directly onto the social and search platforms themselves, you are going to get more engagement.

When doing your content planning for the year, you’ll need to now include which platforms will get which content and when. Posting content once, then sharing links on other platforms is no longer going to give you good results. For each platform, prioritize media type in this order: Video > Images > Text > Links.

   2.  Owning Your Audience Becomes Crucial – Remember when you could actually reach your followers without paying for each post? At the same time that digital marketing platforms are trying to encourage you to post content directly to them, they are also making it harder to organically reach your followers. Most business social accounts are forced into a “pay-to-play” scenario, even with followers you have already earned.

So how do you combat this expensive new strategy? You need to own your audience. Make your followers convert into real leads that you can add to email lists, direct mail lists, and begin a personal consultation process. I am personally a big proponent of email lists and making it simple for visitors to subscribe for new content you are creating. Not pushy sales content, but valuable email content they can use. Embrace tools to reach your audience directly.

   3.  All Eyes on Engagement – Are you the most interesting person in the digital room? This is the magic factor that the search engines and social media websites seem to be increasingly weighting in their algorithms. Number of clicks, comments, “likes,” time spent on site, additional content viewed, etc. The more engaging a post, the more digital love you will receive from the Silicon Valley overlords.

Creating engaging posts all comes down to good content marketing. Understand who your audience is, what they want, and deliver with quality content. Your pre-work into the content you create will ultimately lead to how much your posts resonate and engage.

Ready or not, 2018 is here! The Powderkeg team wishes you success this upcoming year, and we encourage you to reach out with any questions or if we can assist you with your marketing.
